Over the course of a weekend trip home I took the opportunity to create a photographic series which would capture an honest and personal representation of the term 'home'. While it's difficult to argue what makes Somerset more special than other counties, the emotional connection locals have to this quiet, mundane land provides it with a sense of comfort and belonging. Nowhere os truly perfect, yet by making the most out of what we have through the interactions with those around us, we begin to make a place a home.
The photos shown on this page explore different locations and themes. Initially I wanted to visit houses I had lived in before to capture and compare the interiors and memories made, but after the second attempt it became clear that this wouldn't be possible. Yet I did get the chance to go into the first house I remember as a child. It was bizarre because the only room I couldn't envision was my old bedroom. The other themes explored what it's like to live in rural, North Somerset, the people of Weston-Super-Mare and Somerset Carnival.
